Pranab Bardhan, a Cambridge University PhD, has been at Berkeley since 1977, following teaching appointments at MIT and the Delhi School of Economics. He was the chief editor of the Journal of Development Economics for 1985-2003.
Currently, Professor Bardhan heads the MacAthur Foundation International Research Network on "Inequality and Economic Performance," a unit of Berkeley's Inst. of International Studies, which conducts research on the interaction of economic equality and efficiency in both rich and poor countries .
Bardhan is a frequent keynote speaker at international conferences. In recent years, he has given such keynote and inaugural addresses in Australia, China, India, Italy, South Africa and Turkey.
Current Status: Sabbatical
