Pierre: A large body of evidence finds adverse impacts of household childcare needs on labor force participation, particularly for mothers, but the vast majority of this literature reports on high-income countries and largely urban settings. Lower-income and rural settings have different traditional childcare arrangements, so may experience different impacts of a shock to the household childcare burden. I use evidence from Covid-related school closures and partial reopenings in Kenya to evaluate how a shock to household childcare needs from these policies affects labor force
