The Department of Economics, your department, is consistently ranked in the top five Economics programs by the US News & World Report, and is the only public university ranked in the top 10. Maintaining this level of excellence, while competing with other better-funded private universities — for both students and faculty — is currently one of our greatest challenges. Economics cannot afford to depend on its past accomplishments, but must strive daily to remain at the cutting edge.
We are most grateful to our alumni and friends for their generous gifts to our existing funding initiatives.The Department is turning its attention to a much-needed area of support: graduate student fellowships, training grants, and undergraduate program, among others. For the next few years, Economics is prioritizing fundraising in this specific area, although we are delighted to accept gifts to our other existing funds.
