James Powell joined the Berkeley faculty in 1993 as a professor. He received his PhD from Stanford in 1982, the same year he became an assistant professor at M.I.T, where he taught until 1985. Prior to coming to Berkeley, he also taught at Carnegie-Mellon University, University of Wisconsin, Madison, University of Chicago, and Princeton University. He has served as associate editor of Econometrica, the Journal of Econometrics, and International Economic Review, and he was co-chair of the NSF-NBER Conferences on Econometrics and Mathematical Economics. Professor Powell's honors include Fellow, Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences; Fellow, Journal of Econometrics; W.F. Vilas Associate, U.W. Madison; Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship; and H.I. Romnes Faculty Fellowship, U.W. Madison.
